Pupil Premium

What is the Pupil Premium Grant?

This grant is an amount of money allocated to schools based on the number of the 'most disadvantaged' children, as defined by the Government, a school has.

Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) as they feel is appropriate. Schools must report and publicise annually how the money has been spent and what the impact has been for those pupils.

Funding for 2023-24 is £1455 per ‘disadvantaged children’ and £2530 per child who is looked after or adopted from care.

The government believes that the Pupil Premium Grant, which is additional to the main school funding, is the best way to address the inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM), looked after children and service children, and other pupils.

At Brookwood Primary school, all members of staff and governors take responsibility for, and are dedicated to, ensuring that disadvantaged pupils receive a high-quality education which meets their academic, social and wellbeing needs. Staff are empowered in knowing that by delivering a broad, balanced and aspirational curriculum, as well as building strong relationships with children and families, we have the opportunity to make a huge difference to life chances of our children.

Our vision is to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to be curious, ambitious and successful.

We recognise that not all children from low-income families will be disadvantaged and that not all pupils who are disadvantaged will be eligible for pupil premium.  We understand that it is not the funding itself that will improve achievement and attainment, but how it is used. The Department for Education (DfE) expects us to use PPG appropriately and to be accountable for the decisions we make.
