School Events
Understanding School Events: A Guide for Families
At Brookwood Primary School and Nursery, we believe in building strong partnerships with families, and keeping you informed about what Is happening at school is a big part of that. Below is a quick guide to help you understand the different types of events we host throughout the year and what they mean for you and your child.
Information Meetings - new school year
These events give families insight into what your children will be learning throughout the year. Teachers explain curriculum content, teaching approaches, and how you can support learning at home.
Who should attend? Parents/carers
Timings: Either 9am or 2.45pm during the first two weeks in September. For those families unable to attend, the powerpoint presentation will be uploaded to the year group page on the website under the tab Curriculum.
Open Classrooms
These are opportunities for children to proudly share their learning, achievements, and classroom with their families.
Who should attend? Parents, carers, family members
Timings: At the end of the school day until 4.15pm, termly.
Parent Consultations
These meetings are focused on your child’s progress, strengths, and next steps.
Who should attend? Parents/carers
Timings: 10 minute appointments available between 3.30-6.30pm over two evenings. Consultations take place towards the end of Autumn 1 (before the October half term) and Spring 2 (before the Easter holidays). Separate communications are sent out in advance with details of how parents can book appointments on Arbor. Please note, parent consulatations do not take place in the Summer Term as the children instead at this point receive end of year reports.
Workshops
Sessions designed to help families understand specific areas such as Reading, Phonics and online safety.
Who should attend? Parents/carers
Why attend: Gain tools and strategies to support learning at home.
Performances & Assemblies
Events where children perform for their peers and families, showcasing talents or marking special occasions, such as:
*Class Assembly Each class has one assembly per year where they showcase their learning through a variety of ways, such as, music, drama, poetry and work examples.
Who should attend? Families
Timings: 9am, usually on a Thursday
*Summer concert Children who receive additional music lessons in school perform, supported by the rest of the school who sing a number of songs they have learnt during weekly Singing Assemblies over the course of the year.
Who should attend? Families (by invitation)
Timings: Summer term 2 (July)
Sports Day
An exciting day of physical activity and friendly competition. Sports Day takes place during the Summer Term and is split into morning and afternoon sessions.
Who should attend? Families
Timings:
EYFS/KS1 - 9am until approximately 10.30am
KS2 - Approximately 1.30pm start until the end of the school day
Sports Day takes place end June /beginning of July with an additional day booked in should weather affect plans.
For safeguarding purposes, we kindly ask that families do not photograph events in school. Staff members will record and post on Class Dojo/Tapestry after the event.
